FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH NURSERY
First Presbyterian Church provides a nursery for Sunday morning worship services, for Wednesday evening worship, for women’s circle meetings, and for other special events. The Sunday morning nursery is located on the second floor of the Gallant Educational Building near the elevator. The “Day Nursery” is in room 320 on the third floor of the Broad Street Building above the pastor’s office (go up the stairs beside the pastor’s office). This is the room we use for weekday child care such as women’s circle meetings, Wednesday Night programs, and Vacation Bible School. Infants and little ones of any age are welcome in our nursery.
The nursery is staffed from 8:15 – 12:00 noon on Sunday mornings and from 5:45 – 7:00 p.m. or later as needed on Wednesday evening. A snack like cheerios is given to the children during the Sunday church hour. The snack of the day is written on the sign in sheet. Parents are asked to sign in and write where they will be on the sign in sheet in case of an emergency. Parents who are new to the nursery are welcome to stay in the nursery as their child gets used to the new situation. Any parent of any child in the nursery is welcome to visit or stay. Church members of the Nursery Committee are frequently in the nursery helping or standing by the door to answer questions from parents.
We have a Nursery Coordinator and college students who work with adult church volunteers and trained youth of our church to staff the nursery. Our nursery workers have been thoroughly screened with a background check, reference check and drug testing. Our paid adult workers have all been trained in child and infant CPR and First Aid. They have been trained in proper sanitation practices and to follow our child care policies and procedures. If any youth or church members want to volunteer in the nursery, please contact the church office.
In the large nursery room that we use on Sunday morning, there is a separate section in the back, cordoned off from the rest of the room, for a nursery worker to take infants and crawlers to keep them separated from the older toddlers. If any parents prefer for their infant to be in a separate room from the toddlers, there is a separate crib room across the hall where a worker can take an infant. Just let the nursery worker know that is your preference.
At First Presbyterian, we cherish our little ones and we try to provide a safe, comforting, attractive environment where parents can feel secure about leaving their babies and toddlers while they worship or attend church functions. Come by to see us anytime!
