The rose on the organ is to announce the birth of Savannah Kate Walser, daughter of Stephen and Katie Walser.  Savannah was born on February 1st.

Deacons on call today are Ken Breland at 8:30 a.m. and Paul Sandifer at 11:00 a.m.

Children’s Worship leaders today are the Kirbys and Davidsons and next week will be the MaDans and Chastains.

Souper Bowl of Caring:  Today after worship our Middle School Youth will be asking for donations to the “Souper Bowl” offering.   This money will be used to help feed the hungry in our community.

The Heart Truth for Women luncheon will be on Thursday, February 16th from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. at the Callaway Center at West Georgia Technical College. Tickets are $25 per person or $200 for a table of 10.  Call 706-845-3600 to register. 

The AARP Defensive Driving Course will be held here at First Presbyterian on Monday, February 13th & Tuesday, February 14th from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the Small Dining Room.  Participation in this 6 hour class may help to provide auto insurance discounts.  The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members.   Contact Lynn Pauley in the church office 706-884-4064 to register for the class. 

The First Presbyterian Church Montessori Preschool and Kindergarten will host an Open House on Thursday, February 9th, from 4:40-6:30 pm. Students currently enrolled and families interested in the 2012-2013 school year are invited to attend. Friends of the Whitney family will be selling bracelets in honor of Lorri Whitney for her recent breast cancer diagnosis.  The pink bracelets include the breast cancer ribbon along with LW4 (Lucas, Lorri, Luke and Lilly) and are $10 (available in adult and youth sizes).  If you are interested in buying a bracelet, please see Anna Knight, Caroline Davidson, or Julie Patton at church on Sundays or Wednesdays.  The Whitney family recently relocated to Chattanooga, TN and 100% of the proceeds will be sent to the family.  There is also a Lorri Whitney Medical Fund set up at SunTrust Bank if you are interested in a monetary donation.

Weekly Events

The Men’s Bible Study meets on Wednesdays at 6:45 a.m. in the small dining room.  A complimentary breakfast is served.   Jones Miller will provide breakfast this week.   

The First Presbyterian exercise class meets on Mondays at 2:00 p.m.; Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m.; and Fridays at 9:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.  The leaders of this class are Janis Kish and Jane Foster.  While designed for participants age 55 and older, the class welcomes persons of any age.

Christian Education

The Wednesday Night Program begins with supper at 5:15 p.m. and classes for all ages at 6:15 p.m.  The menu this week is Beef Stroganoff.  The adult program will be “The New Atheism: Should We Fear It?” presented by Dr. DeCelle. Dr. Conine’s Bible Study group is studying the book of Romans. 

The Middle School PYC will collect the Souper Bowl Offering today immediately after the 11:00 a.m. worship service and then go out to eat lunch. 

The High School PYC will meet tonight at 6:00 p.m. for supper and a Super Bowl party.

Confirmation classes will be held this year for youth in grades 6, 7, and 8.  The kick-off will be on Wednesday, February 15th, and classes will be held on Wednesday nights leading up to the Confirmation Retreat on April 13, 14, & 15 at Calvin Center.   Please make sure you have signed up to participate. 

Deacons

Homebound Members:  One of the missions of the Deacons is to interact with our homebound members.  Not only  do the Deacons provide flowers at Easter and Christmas but also personal contact throughout the year.  If you know of someone who is no longer able to participate in church activities, please refer their name and contact information to Debra Sargent, either at 706-884-1976 or dhsargent@yahoo.com
