At First Presbyterian Church, we love to talk about the 3 Gives, which invite us to respond to the radical grace of God by:

  • Giving of our time and talents to Christ in the community

  • Giving of our time and talents to Christ in the church

  • Giving a portion of our financial gifts to Christ via the ministry of FPC. (You can find out more about that third Give here. On this page, we’ll talk about the first two.)

Now you may be wondering: what does even mean? Basically, it asks how you are devoting the time and talents God has given you to participate in God’s mission in the world? The apostle Paul puts it this way in 1 Corinthians 12:

To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses.

In other words, we all have gifts and we’re called to use them! Maybe yours is handiwork or administration or public speaking or fundraising or event planning. The point is we are called to use the gifts we’ve been given for the glory of God.
